Chinese Satay

In the past it used to be quite easy to find Chinese satay. I remember an old man with a push cart selling Chinese satay that used to come by our house when I was a little girl. Then I grew up and he also stopped selling at our neighborhood.

In the nineteen eighties hubby and I found another stall selling Chinese satay at the coffee shop at the corner of Kampong Malabar and Penang Road. But that coffee shop eventually closed down and is now an antique shop.

Through the years we have managed to stumble across a handful Chinese satay stalls but such occasions are few and far between. Taste-wise they are disappointment, nothing like the Chinese satay we were used to enjoy.

Many people have told us that authentic and the best Chinese satay can be found at Bangkok Lane. Somehow we've never bothered to check it out because parking is always a problem there. Then last Saturday I had an invitation from my brother-in-law to join him and sis for breakfast at Bangkok Lane.

When I arrived - late after parking at Plus Zone and walking over - I was overjoyed to find Chinese satay on the table.

Missing Them

Pam is getting married in 2 months' time and I really miss my mom's and my mother-in-law's counsel and guidance through the tricky waters of wedding tradition and customs.

Pam's wedding day would have been a happy day for her Ah Kong, Ah Ma, Kong Kong and Por Por. Especially for her Kong Kong and Por Por because she is the first of their grandchildren to get married.

I am sure Por Por would look resplendent in her kebaya but, knowing my dad, it would be a feat to get him to don anything more dressy than a batik shirt and long pants. Yet he had always been indulgent when it comes to Pam. Who knows, she may even coax him to wear a suit!

I am just glad that something belonging to Por Por shall make an appearance at the wedding dinner. It'll be the closest to having her there with us.

As for Ah Kong, Ah Ma and Kong Kong, they shall be rejoicing as they look down from heaven.

Received this box from my brother today.
It brings back a load of memories.

Muruku Mania

The mixed muruku we ordered from before CNY is finally here! Ordered via Singapore, collected from Paya Terubong and picked up from Gottlieb Road.

We bought RM96 worth of muruka. That's a lot of muruku. But it has to last us until the next shipment.

Easter

I developed a terrible headache yesterday. It started in the afternoon and refused to go away. It was so bad that I was not able to sleep it away and puking didn't help one bit.

Thank God today is a new day. He has risen and so have I.
